Gas Fireplaces
There are three types of Gas Fireplaces:
Gas Fireplace Insert, Direct Vent Fireplace and Gas Log Set
- This is an insert that is installed inside an existing wood burning fireplace. The venting consists of one or two vents that are installed inside the chimney.
- This is very common in newer houses and are the preferred choice by most; mainly because they can be installed almost anywhere. The venting consists of two vents inside each other usually 4 and 7 inches in diameter. The inside vent will let out the smoke and carbon monoxide, while the outer vent will bring in fresh air from the outside to feed the fireplace. The vent is usually installed directly to an outside wall.
- This is considered to be a decorative appliance. It is usually installed inside an existing wood burning fireplace. No liner is required as it operates on natural draft. Gas logs sets do not provide heat and is mainly just for ambiance. Gas log sets will give you the look of a wood burning fireplace, without having to clean and light it.
